Exploring the intersection of science¹, technology², and the art³ of therapy.

¹ science: How does therapy work in general? What does an individualized, experiential, and evidence-oriented approach to therapy look like?

² technology: How can ancient techniques — like meditation, plant medicine, and rituals — as well as novel technologies — like psychedelics, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality — impact our emotional wellness?

³ art: How can therapists and others artfully apply this knowledge to facilitate increased connection, meaning, and wellness? How does how we see ourselves, philosophically and spiritually, intersect with the above?

Hi, I’m Brad Dolin. I’ve worked on software development, machine learning, data science, and artificial intelligence. Now I’m a therapist.

This blog is a personal experiment. By writing about things I’m interested in, I hope to clarify my thoughts, share my learning, get critical and thought-provoking feedback, and connect with others who have similar interests. I’ll try to post something about once a month.

More Deets

In my previous life, I was a technologist. At Stanford, I studied Symbolic Systems — the interdisciplinary study of computer science, logic, linguistics, cognitive psychology, and philosophy of mind — with a concentration in artificial intelligence (AI). In my tech career, I did Fulbright research on evolution-inspired AI, developed software, and implemented machine learning approaches at health technology startups.

Now, as a therapist, my twenty years of experience in science and technology continue to inform my curiosity. I believe that warmth, humor, and empathy are therapeutic complements to skepticism, rationality, and data-oriented inquiry. At the Feeling Good Institute, I practice an evidence-based therapy called TEAM-CBT that draws from cognitive-behavioral therapy and other methods, continuously integrates client feedback, and focuses on client-directed goals in a deep and practical way.
